BRIEF | Design two areas of a large garden. One area features a water rill to relax around with year-round interest linking materials and colour with the rest of the garden.
The other area was to be used as a working garden with brick-raised beds to grow vegetables with space for a greenhouse to propagate plants.
DESIGN | For the area with the rill we have kept the materials unified with the surrounding buildings, linking similar tones together using lime stone agrates and cobbles. The rills feature corten water bowls with water spilling over the lips. Planting bed depths have increased to allow for more species-rich planting and allow for more seasonal interest throughout the year with the aim of increasing biodiversity. The colour pallet has been kept in a similar style to other parts of the garden while having a slight colour change to make this area feel like a separate area of the garden while staying unified.
The raised beds in the kitchen garden have been matched to the colour pallet of the house, in a warm buff tone and gravel pathway using the same gravel as compacted gravel that is around the rill. For areas that require paving such as the greenhouse, we have managed to re-use old paving to make the hard standing.
